62 yr old mother and 26 yr old daughter trying to find the perfect city to relocate. I've been in Port St Lucie Florida for 24 yrs. I have family in Queens and Long Island. I miss them. I'm considering New Hyde Park, Massapequa, or the Islips. Looking to Rent a 3/2 house. Have 3 cats and 2 dogs. I would really appreciate any ideas.

Don't know if you're aware of the cost for rent; knowing your approx. budget will help us better guide you.

That aside, your pets are going to severely limit your options !

Depending on your budget you might not find a place like that to rent especially with that many pets.

Be VERY prepared for "sticker shock". The rents on LI and Queens (anywhere really) are astronomical!!!!

3 cats and 2 dogs? Good luck finding someone that will rent to you. Also your town choices are all over the place. New Hyde Park, Massapequa and the Islips are very different neighborhoods as rent prices go. Since New Hyde Park is closer to the city expect to pay in rent there, followed by Massapequa then the Islips.
Be careful of Central Islip though. That is a bad neighborhood.

I'm going to throw this number out there as the baseline for a 3bdr, 2bth, cat/dog friendly, single family home you might find in one of the Islips...

$2000.00

Like everyone else said. What's your budget?
Average for the same size home in PSL, built in the early 2000's, 2000sqft with a 2 car garage and inground pool is about $1300/mo.
If you want the same house, you're looking at BIG BUCKS.

Not happening for $2,000 in Islip - even without pets.
Lowest currently available in Islip: $2,300/mo
Central Islip has one for $2,000/mo

Both NO pets

...Why? Stay in FL. It's cheaper, the people are nicer and weather is fantastic. You miss your family? Southwest Airlines. Islip or NYC direct to almost anywhere in FL except the panhandle. That's a much, much better alternative to moving back to Long Island.

Yeah that's why you are living here and obsessed with LI and posting on LI CD instead of all the great Florida CD boards there are to choose from. Some advice! "Do as I say, not as I do!" Why can't she move back? Apparently you did! She's not allowed?

To the OP: If you want to move to LI, it's nobody's business but yours. If you want advice, we do need to know how much you can spend on rent and as for location it might be useful to know where you and your daughter are planning on working. Pet friendly rentals can be found. Some RE agents know of them. Also some animal shelters and animal rescue societies keep in touch with pet-friendly landlords.
