Congratulations to the kid!

And Elmont's definitely not poor though of course it's no Manhasset either.

Poor was a bad choice of words, but most on LI certainly don't look upon Elmont as one of the 'good' districts

All 8 plus a few others. Amazing to not get rejected by even one school.

His ethnicity certainly didn't hurt. That's not to take anything away from his accomplishments but it certainly was a factor.

Salutatorian and Intel Semifinalist and 2200+ on his SAT's. That being said, his race certainly was a factor in going 8 for 8 in the Ivy's.

If you are salutatorian, an Intel finalist, and you have 2200 on your SAT, I think you'd almost be a shoe in. IMHO, I don't think race was a factor.

Not anymore. You need stats like that just to be in the running - virtually everyone going to top schools will have been at the top of their high school pecking order. You need more to put you over the top - sports, music, volunteer work, or being a person of color, the last being worth more than the rest combined.

Second in your class, Intel finalist, his scores, and he was undoubtedly in extracurriculars. I just think it stinks that we have to turn to his race. Isn't it possible he was qualified?
