Hi, so I'm Closing on a home today in what is considered West Hempstead, however, after doing some research, we realized we are actually in Lakeview. There is some history about Lakeview and West Hempstead zoning to exclude African Americans from the area of Lakeview. Geographicly, my home sits on the Lake view section, but the post office recognizes it as West Hempstead. We are in the Malverne school district, which is great and one of the reasons why we purchased the home. I know a teacher that explained to me that the children living on the South side of the parkway should say they live in Lakeview to distinguish between the areas, due to a turf beef. But my point is, you can be confused because towns in long island are zoned based on the color of your skin.
I'm sure everyone may not agree, but please do your reach.

West Hempstead and Lakeview have the same zip code 11552. West Hempstead also has another zip code 11570. I'm sure by now, you know what area that you are living in...Read some comments about Lakeview and West Hempstead on this site.
11570 is RVC.

My mortgage says West Hemp, but the train station stop says lakeview and when you get off the southern, the sign says 'lakeview' What the hell?
I hope you don't plan on commuting to the city every day, because that train line is miserable...

I don't think it's so out of the ordinary to not know where your home is exactly. Listings will often make things up to make the area seem more appealing … ex. 'East Massapequa' … East Massapequa is really Amityville.

West Hempstead and Lakeview don't really exist. They are hamlets, which is a just a word used to describe an unincorporated area of a Town. Your town is the Town of Hempstead, and your SD is Malverne. Other than the County of Nassau, these are the only two municipalities that you live in. The West Hempstead/Lakeview thing only pertains to your mailing address - for purposes of mail and navigation programs.

Zoning is this area if controlled by the Town of Hempstead.

Good old Walter Greenspan could have settled this in a nano second.
