What kind of restaurants do you want more of on LI? I am talking about sit down table service.
Obviously there is an overabundance of italian cuisine, and some Americanized Seafood, diners, and steak places, and chinese. There is a surprising number of BBQ places. I know of one German Place, Plattdeutsche.
I eat at this french restaurant in Queens, and he said there is a deadzone for French Cuisine on LI. I was talking to him about the Wayne French Kitchen in Oceanside. Is this true? Is LI a deadzone for French Cuisine?
Have you ever travelled abroad to somewhere besides Italy, and ate, and was like, darn I wish I had this kind of food on LI?
More classic American with professionally-trained staff and no TVs or blaring music. Nothing foo-foo or bizarre; every other restaurant has that in obnoxious abundance.
BBCJ, did you ever eat at La Mascotte in Commack? I remember them being very good, and then went kinda down hill.
I don't think so but at that same time we were going to Lafayette every Saturday and then on Sundays my then-husband always insisted we go to Stresa in Manhasset for Italian. Then when Antoine moved to La Marmite that became the Saturday restaurant, LOL
It was always too late to go out to dinner on Friday nights and so Saturday and Sunday were always the dinner-out evenings.
You mean like Scandinavian right? Ikea has very basic swedish food, but it gets great reviews.

Do you think people on LI just dont like French? The one french restaurant I go to called Wayne's in Oceanside is a really nice setup. It is very large. But I think their problem is the cheap menu and food offering is too simple for a place that big. Its food I can easily make at home in little time.
I understand their job is save/make money and be efficient, but when you have a location that large, you should be offering more elaborate food. Or else I may eat at a diner. It just makes the chefs look lazy.

There was a "French" restaurant in West Hempstead in a house many years ago. It didn't last. La Coquille is more French inspired than French and they even say that on the linked website. According to that website, they are moving away from that even further. I think it's very rare to find any type of authentic French restaurant in the NY area, since you can't get French perishable ingredients and the courses are all wrong. You can buy French cheese, but not milk or cream or eggs. You have to go to France. Le District seems to be the best bet.
Other cities seem to have at least one Ethiopian restaurant. Are there any on Long Island?

An actual Spanish (as in SPAIN) restaurant. We use to go to Marbella in Bayside, but the ride is a bit long.
It's gotten a lot better the last 5 years or so. A lot more diversity of Asian food especially around Stony Brook area, better Mexican places opening, more diverse Latin food. Finally Long Islanders are appreciating something more than Red Sauce Italian, take out Chinese, and diners. Boring.
With the ridiculous number of Asian restaurants in the SBU vicinity, it is safe to say we are innundated!
More "Millers'" and "Duffy's" that are found in So. FLA. Give me a burger and beers quick in a big place, for a good price, with lots of TV's.
Really? A big, faceless, bland chain restaurant instead of a locally owned and operated place that prepares its own food and caters to locals? Do you also want more pizza chains instead of real local pizzerias?
I kept saying Turkish simit is far better than any NY bagels. You should have the chance to experience a real Turkish breakfast with simit, peynir, borek, etc. without flying to Istanbul. (Which I've done twice.)
Other than that, Russian and Eastern European food. It's an underrated cuisine, and I used to visit Brooklyn for those vittles.
