Passed by last weekend and St. Paul's Recreation Center place was absolutely packed. Not sure if it was outdoor soccer or something else but cars were parked everywhere and the people - spectators or whatever they were doing there - were crowding in by the hundreds. Nobody I saw had masks but they were families carrying picnic coolers and everything else. Was shocked to see how many people were there acting like Covid isn't a thing. Do they have events there every weekend?
Why do you care? Garden City had a grand total of 283 cases since this began, likely since it's a fairly tight knit community of educated, relatively affluent people who can properly assess and handle the "risk" of C19. Meanwhile, just across their southern border is Hempstead with a whopping 2368 cases, the most in Nassau County. Why not drive two minutes south and shame the people there for not social distancing up to your personal hysterical standards?
There is no "indoors" at St. Paul's and the risk of transmission is low outdoors. Not non existent, but it's pretty low. Must have been soccer or something. I like how you called it St. Paul's rec center though - that would be nice, but the building is about to fall down before they can ever decide what to do about it.

We are out of NY for 8.5 years and when we go back to LI and GC we always say the next time we pass here this will be down. They don't build 'em like that anymore!!!

They’ve had a construction fence surrounding it for a few weeks now. I was wondering if they were going to tear it down. Such a beautiful structure, but definitely needs some TLC.

I used to take my kids there - to the fieldhouse (which can still be used) for various things....met a woman whose husband was an alarm guy. This is going back 15 years. Guy was brought in to see about alarming the place. He said no way, no how could the place possibly be rehabbed. Not a chance. In fact, he wouldn't go past a certain point in the building.
We bought our first house in GC almost 25 years ago. The debate was raging then about what to do about it, they've had polls, moratoriums and so on and so forth the entire time. What they really need is a real government that will make real decisions in that town. The "gentleman's agreement" from days of yore, where the mayor is taken from a current trustee and serves a 2 year term means nothing gets done. that construction fence is going to be there till a decision is made. As I said, it's 25 years and counting on that front. Add the lovely fence to the Monster Poles by Merillon Ave train station and the people really need to rise up and demand some action.
What do you propose they do with it? It's an architectural masterpiece but it needs millions of dollars worth of work, and what is a building that size useful for? Apartments, basically. And the residents don't want that. So they touch it up, keep people from getting in, and let it sit there as a monument.

Holy crap. What an angry racist you are. Southhampton's fundraiser was also outside and that is under investigation now. My post was nothing more then a simple observation and it concerns anybody who lives in Nassau because people and Covid are transient. And what makes you think the hundreds of people attending this event were all from Garden City or that rich, educated people do not become Covid carriers? Get therapy. Angry, morally superior outburst such as yours are a cry for help. The number of your posts suggests no real life activities either. Perhaps you should get out more.

It was a simple observation by you implying your moral and intellectual superiority, and someone called you on it. People are outdoors, the risks are low, get over yourself.

A monument with a fugly fence around it, because it's starting to fall down. Just take it down. People will survive. It was a school for God's sake, not the first White House.
