Here it comes - the Garden City / Uniondale Casino - maybe they will sell pot in the snack shops and hire students from Hofstra and Nassau Community to hand out free samples to the hookers that will roaming the Turnpike.
I hope they get a casino, they fought so hard to not let the Islanders build a new arena a hotel and some entertainment a few condos. A casino would just make the whole situation hilarious!
I wonder if Nassau County sold the land to the state, does the state automatically override Hempstead zoning?

The problem with the lighthouse project was other than the hockey arena.
I see where Blakeman has reached agreement with the Sands ceding them development rights for that property.
a casino is always the crappiest of solutions for urban land redevelopment.
anyway, the main problem with long island is, the highways are ridiculously inadequate.
1. the long island expressway should be five lanes in each direction from at least the cross island to rt. 112.
2. the parkways have morphed into a very dangerous highway system. they were useful until probably the seventies. now, they're really an embarrassment.
3. there is no good way to redevelop that land. there are no "urban corridors" within that landscape. there are no sidewalks. it's basically a giant parking lot, according to 1967.
the colosseum should have been built somewhere along sunrise highway. somewhere near seaford would have been an perfect. the lirr babylon branch service would have made it easy to get to.

Surely they will have some shuttle service from Hempstead LIRR to the casino.
Maybe they'll make use of the abandon rails between Wheeler Ave and Ellington Ave which both NCC students and Casino goers can use... Garden City residents will would not like this though.
I still don't like this idea because I work and use a daycare around that area. Traffic will be terrible.
This will be an interesting study. Foxwoods is opening a new addition slated for this summer. Will a LI casino take revenue away from Foxwoods and Mohican Sun? Certainly. The question will ultimately be, will it be enough to sustain it long term?
Casino? No thanks, still prefer to jump in my car and ride down to Atlantic City.
Bar hop, casino hop, and even take a walk on the boardwalk.
