Back in the 70's/80's Levittown had reputation of being white trashy. Not so today.
Levittown is back to average suburban status.
Even in the 80's when it had it's "reputation", it was really seeing no more incidents than any other average suburb, it's just the fact that Levittown has been predominantly "white", so there you have the label of "white trash".

Because of the lower than average housing costs back then, it did attract a certain "element" of residents, but overall, it has always been relatively safe and average.

Relatively safe="ok"

No place is truly "safe"
Anything can happen anywhere.

It stems from the incredible amount of prejudice on Long Island. A large part of the population around here are biased against those without basements. Until we solve this problem, we will never be a united community here on LI.

No big deal if your Levitt home abuts a sump...while you're diggin' out your basement, you can just toss the dirt over the fence...

So are you saying Levittowners suffer from "basement envy?"

Interestingly enough, basements are seen as so important here, but when LI'ers move to Utopia, North Carolina or some other Southland, they don't seem to mind being without them.

There is a basement "GAP" !

I guess they don't have ANYWHERE to retreat to, during home invasions.

If you're not a drug dealer, you don't have to worry about home invasions. And if you are a drug dealer, you should have enough illegal firepower to protect yourself against them, as the possibility of a home invasion is an occupational hazard.

yeah, but look at the home prices listed for Levittown compared to other towns with comperable decent / good schools...there has to be SOME reason (besides the basements thing) that these houses go for so much lower...?
