I would suggest lakeville estates in NHP. It is the great neck school district and is in your price range with fair taxes.

Lakeville Estates is a neighborhood that is partly in the Hamlet of North New Hyde Park and partly in the Hamlet of Manhasset Hills ("New Hyde Park, NY 11040" mailing address).

Thanks for mentioning that. I've always driven by there and it seems very nice. How is the Great Neck school district? Sorry, need to bone up on my research there...

Theh Great Neck Union Free School District is one of the top school districts in Nassau County.

But, not all houses in the Lakeville Estates area in North New Hyde Park and Manhasset Hills may be in the Great Neck Union Free School District.

Among other things, the Census Bureau's online address search function indicates in which school district an address is located, in addition in which community (city, village or CDP) a house is located. (CDP, or Census Designated Place, is the Census Bureau equivalent for a hamlet in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.)

Thanks for mentioning that...always have to keep an eye on borders. So I guess I'm looking at a)Floral Park b)Garden City c)Great Neck school districts. Does anyone know if Great Neck's budget passed? And do they have a middle school? Thanks again for any and all insight.

Both Elmont UFSD and Floral Park-Bellerose UFSD are K-6 Districts only. For MS and HS, students from both of these districts go to Sewanhaka High School district, but are zoned for different schools.

If you are looking for a district where kids are pushed academically, you are better off with Herricks or Great Neck. I've seen those Herricks kids at academic competitions and those kids walk away with a lot of awards They usually do well on the Long Island Challenge on channel 12 too. You also have to consider if you want your kids in that type of pressure cooker environment.

Thanks...my daughter struggles a bit right now (receives academic intervention). Not sure how she would fare in that type of environment. But I would prefer academics over athletics.

If you moved into the Herricks school district, there's no need to worry about that at all. They have an excellent special education program and I didn't see any mention of cuts to it. Herricks has the best of both worlds; programs for the advanced student AND programs for the student in need of specialized help.
