My husband has been offered a job in El Segundo (East Imperial Highway) . We are considering moving next month. Looking for a 2 bedroom house (to rent) in an area with good schools and preferably close to husband's workplace. How much rent should we expect to pay and are there any other towns/cities nearby we should be looking into ? Our major preferences are good schools (elementary) , suburban atmosphere ,not too expensive rent and preferably less than 30 minutes commute to workplace.
Any information would be appreciated, thanks

houses will probably start at 2500/month in a nearby neighborhood with good schools. the wiseburn area might be a bit cheaper, but many of the homes there are quite run down and the freeway is very close.

LauraPetrie, lot's of knowledgeable folks on here with respect to the South Bay, but it would be helpful if you could supply a number. Highest amount you can afford for rent. Otherwise, we're just throwing darts at a blank wall.

Thanks so far! We're paying $900 for a 2 bedroom apartment here in Nashville, TN in a very nice part of town , so $2500 is a shock to me.. definitely cannot afford that much and the most we could is around $1500.. Is it even possible ? Any info would be appreciated, thanks..

It's one of those things in which you can pick any two of three housing qualities: affordable, close, good schools. I work in El Segundo but I live 50 miles away. There are lots (and I mean lots) of vanpools which head to the El Segundo area every day from the Conejo Valley, Palmdale, Moreno Valley, Murrieta, and San Clemente.

If you haven't seen this check it out:

Another thing to consider is the Metro Green Line which goes for Norwalk straight into El Segundo. Or look at Fountain Valley, some parts of Huntington Beach, Los Alamitos, and a couple other communities there....not sure if it is within your budget but it might be the best combination of the three qualities above.
