Best Air Quality Near Glendale? (Pasadena, Burbank: find a job, to live, moving)

Hello,

I am moving soon. My job is still in Glendale and I just can't stand the air quality where I currently live (on the border of Glendale and Burbank by the 5 and 134).

I'd like to stay close to work and am wondering what would be my best bet for:

1) Staying within 20-30 minute commute, one way, to Glendale,

2) Best air in that range

I was looking at Montrose/La Crescenta. It has a significant elevation over Glendale and downtown, it has a big mountain on its west side which I think blocks most of the smog going east.

Pasadena is beautiful but it seems the air is as bad or worse as it is farther east.

Studio city and Sherman Oaks are farther west than Glendale and seem decent, but are still in the valley, so still bad air?

Maybe Sunland/Shadow Hills has the best air?

If anyone knows of any websites that track air quality by sub city or region around here, that would be great too.

Locale Air Quality Reports

That is the best website I could find. It doesn't separate by region much, but more than any of the other sites I looked at. You can see the various cities or areas the air quality is for in the scrolling box on the right side of the screen. The link at the bottom is a map that shows it coloured in.

the best way to avoid dirty air is 1. not live near a freeway 2. avoid the area around the ports and 3. live close to the coast or lesser populated areas. since option 2 isn't a problem and 3 doesn't sound like it will work out for you considering your commute preference, you'll just have to live as far from a freeway as possible.

Yeah, can't live on the Westside though I WISH I could. I am trying to find a job on the coast. That would solve the air quality issue, but for now, my job is in Glendale....

So yes, getting far from a freeway is a must. As for other places....

Anyone have experience with La Crescenta? It seems nice and has more the feel of a 'mountain town' than other places around here. It's still close to Glendale and because of the elevation, I'd like to think the air would be better there, despite being further inland. Anyone?

if youre worried -get your apt in santa monica and commute-the air is so bad where you are it hurts to inhale! asthma isn't at epidemic numbers in LA county cause the freeways are so empty.

The air quality in Montrose and La Crescenta is definitely better than most of Glendale! I used to regularly drive from La Crescenta to the Glendale/Burbank area, and I could see the smog from above while driving on the 2 freeway.

We lived in La Canada with an asthmatic kiddo and rarely had problems unless we spent the day in Glendale. Think the foothill area gives you just enough elevation to help out with the smog issues.
