Jack Sparrow has been reeeeeeeeeeeealy quiet during this thread.

I'm a firm believer that you can find a good man or good woman anywhere, that there is no such thing as "all great" or "all awful" members of the opposite sex in any given area. BUT...I have noticed in the past a suspicious amount of posts commenting on how much "better looking" women in Los Angeles are than in Place X, Y or Z. Sometimes these are thinly cloaked: "Women take better care of themselves in SoCal" or "women in Other State/City X dress like lumberjacks/don't take care of their nails/let themselves go/tend to be heavier," etc. I've even seen guys from other states say they WANT to live in LA because the women are thinner/look better/yadda yadda or just that "they're beautiful".

I'm not saying you can't find a good man in LA who will love you for who you are inside. I'm just saying...I wish a few here would speak up about this issue just to be fair to the OP. Only because she did mention it right up front. It mightn't be an issue for everyone but the OP seemed to have been concerned about it so fair is fair. I wonder what dude here will be brave enough to say he does require a hot-looking woman. 'Cause I've seen ya. I know you're out there.

anyways to answer the question, you will find plenty of different types of guys here. just like there's an abundance of toolbags in LA, there's tons of guys that are down to earth, have a secure job, educated (or in the process of it), and can still hold an interesting conversation. just ask my girlfriend

Surely there are an abundance of different types in NYC, no? So there are that many more single men:single girl ratio in LA than NYC? So are all of you saying a single guy should move to NYC because there are so many females there that they are all scratching and clawing to get to the low number of men? Maybe I should move to NYC in that case. Didn't realize there was such a low ratio of single men:single women there.

That can't be accurate. San Diego, because of the Naval factors, is notorious for having alot more men than women.

Rats-thanks for the survey map! My girlfriends and I here in NYC were discussing this recently and find this to be very accurate. Men have a candy store here in Manhattan. Although dating is easy here, it's difficult to find a commitment minded man.

Well, I'll say it - trying to find a good man in Los Angeles is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. It's impossible. I've met guys that are born and bred here, transplants that have lived here for awhile and the like - they ALL seem to have a problem with TRUTHFULNESS. And if you call them out on it, they look at you like you're crazy. It's like you're supposed to pretend the b.s. is true and just go with the flow. I can't. The lies are too stupid for me to let slide.

I think this is where my frustration lies with this city. I can't get with the program. I don't want to brag and go into debt buying stuff I can't afford just so that someone else could think that I'm "important" and that I have clout.

Also, the underlying racial issues here bother me too. I can't get with the latino hate. Sorry. Maybe in another twenty years or so, but not right now.

Unfortunately, you will. They will appear to be normal at first, but after you hang around them for awhile you'll see the fake side. Liars can only keep up the facade but for so long before it starts crumbling.

How about providing a picture, I'd like to know what "good looking but not a model" looks like. I'm sure people here can tell you how you compare to SoCal girls.
I would suggest San Francisco too. Though I've never been, I've heard really good things about the place.
