More and more developers are building apartments and condos, eschewing the american dream of a single family home. The percentage is quite staggering. The San Frenando Valley has changed completely in the last 10 years and in another 10 years many are predicting that it will be another Manhattan. The problem? No public transportation what so ever. The only subway ends at Lankershim, despite 2.5 million people living west of that thoroughfare. An interesting read:

Why doesn't that line make a left turn and go along Ventura and at least end in Warner Center?

I'm seeing it down in OC too. They're building more and more condo towers. I see it as the worst of both worlds: More people per square mile and more cars because 99% of them will still need them to get around.

yes its true but not all homes will be destroyed..at least not all the rich people homes in West hollywood and etc. Give public transportation some time! Los Angeles is called "the unplanned city" because people in the mid 1850's til 1930's or so did not think Los Angeles would grow to be the nations 2nd largest city. Unlike San Francisco which grew tremendously in a small amount of years during the gold rush because it attracted many mid-westerners and easterners and it was obvious that it would become another major city. The Metro system is currently expanding into east Los Angeles and through West hollywood towards Santa Monica. Its gonna take another couple of years for it to REALLY expand into the San Fernando Valley because it is more important to expand in the Los Angeles area.

Southern CA may be growing upwards, but I don't see it becoming Manhattan-Like,but more of like Tokyo, where you have clusters of High Rises scattered around with Low to Medium Rises spreading outward.

The strangest complaints i've been hearing from people is Traffic...Do these people honestly expect to move into a Major City and not expect Traffic

People in L.A love their Vehicles, but i'm sure you'll be seeing more Walkable Areas, especially in places like Downtown L.A.

L.A is also improving with it's Mass Transit Network.
