I live there now. The people can be kind of ghetto but in general I like it better than most parts of the LA area, it's more walkable and bikeable than pretty much anywhere I've been around here, and it's pretty laid back.

In the 90s, yes. It was relieved to move on after moving out. Not much goes on in Long Beach.

before we were married my wife lived in belmont shore, what a great neighborhood. if a good paying job moved my family down that way i'd have no problems living in long beach.

Missouri? One time, Larry Mantle of KPCC did one of his town halls in Long Bch. He mentioned that it was referred to as "Missouri by the Sea" or something like that due to all of the immigrants from the Midwest that settled there back in the first half of the 20th century. It does seem to be pretty tame compared to Los angeles.

Wait, let me get this straight. You moved from Long Beach to Missouri, and you're quite proud of this feat? What part about living near the ocean did you not like that you find in Missouri?
