Myth busted.
"Lane splitting by motorcycles is permissible but must be done in a safe and prudent manner."

How the hell do you do it "in a safe and prudent manner" in Los Angeles?

What I mean is, when you are behind a car and it is going to turn right, even if there is a right turn lane, the car always makes the widest turn possible so that you have to either stop or slow down. Its so dangerous and annoying. Why do these LA drivers do this?

I'd love to hear your thoughts about this.

Have you ever been in Italy???

I'd like to say that I've seen two really disasterous accidents from people trying to cut across all the freeway lanes to exit -- but in truth, I've never really seen any of them. I see the people cutting across the lanes, I see the cars flying -- but I don't get to see the actual accidents. I'm usually past the area when the cars land.

Once I was on I-10 when someone did that little "cut across all the lanes" thing. What they failed to notice was that the exit they were attempting to take was under construction and was closed. The offramp wasn't even paved and it was full of bulldozers, etc. I saw the car cut across, I saw it fly -- and I thought "Ut-oh! Did they notice that exit was closed?" I dunno, but that must have been a nice little accident.

I also used to take the 118 freeway home at night. Where you turn off the 118 to take the 405, there is a little median with a curb on it. It's really amazing how many cars don't notice that median until the car is flying -- but what is really fun is to watch someone attempt to cut out of the fast lane on the 118 to get on the 405 and hit that little median!!! Ooooohh! Sparks fly! The car is airborne! There is a sound barrier wall there and I imagine many of those airborne cars hit the sound barrier wall.

I had a friend who dated a woman who was a stunt car driver for the studios. She thought nothing of driving 90+ mph on the freeway and doing all kinds of risky things. He was terrified most of the time (in fact, he refused to ride with her after two car rides). He said she would scream "Don't worry! I'm a professional!!" He couldn't handle the speed, the tailgating, the cutting across all the lanes, the jockeying for position, etc.
