Back in the 1960s and 1970s I vaguely recall seeing a few little doors (wooden) at the base of the Palisades as if someone walking on the land side of PCH could just open one of these doors and go inside the bottom of the cliff. I have always wondered about those doors. As I recall they were north of the California Incline. There were a few of them maybe with a mile or two of the California Incline.

A couple of weeks ago I was driving south on PCH from Malibu to Santa Monica and I couldn't see any of them...could have been obliterated by mudslides and construction...who knows. But I did see one, about where the California Incline is, maybe half way up. Bummer I didn't have a camera for a quick shot...

Anyway, does any out there have any knowledge of what these doors where? Utility company? Tunnel up to Ocean Boulevard or homes up on top of the cliff?

smo - Google Maps

Here's an old shot of where the doors would have been. Imagine a door at the bottom of the cliff.

I guess I could have if I found a place to park near the CI. I don't think the door can be opened, like it is bolted shut...

Aren't those Alice in Wonderland's doors? The ones that lead to the Mad Tea Party?

I used to know a man who said they were something to do with anticipation of a *** invasion or air raid during WWII. Perhaps beyond the doors were AA guns?

That's Japanese in the previous post. I guess we can't say "***" for some reason. Is that like saying "Oriental" these days?

I think they had guns in WWII somewhere in San Pedro or Signal Hill or Long Beach or something. Some battery or something out there...

Default I remember those doors

I remember those doors from when I was little. I always imagined some 'trolls' living inside. I haven't thought about those doors in a long time, thanks for the memory

Its funny because I drive by there now and don't notice if they are there or not.
