I think this scene from the circa 1974 Earthquake movie will give you some idea:

The airport will clean the runway of the crashed planes, and it'll be business as usual.
Most likely, the runway will have cracks, which will be patched.

What is your prediction for the next big L.A. metro Earthquake?

A. Magnitude: 6.0-6.9
-Light to moderate damage. Some highway overpasses collapse. Older buildings damaged, a few collapse.
Mostly light damage to infrastructure and buildings. Power fully restored in all areas in under 10 days. Minimal injuries, very few or no deaths. Total cost: $25 to $90 billion in damages.

B. Magnitude: 7.0-7.5
-Wide scale moderate damage throughout the entire metro area. Many roads and highways no longer passable due to damage. Many buildings suffer light or moderate damage, quite a few older buildings damaged beyond repair. Power will be out for many weeks in some areas. Less than 100 dead, a few hundred injuries. Total cost: $150 to $300 billion in damages.

C. Magnitude: 7.6-7.9
-Wide scale moderate & heavy damage throughout the whole region. Many older structures collapsed and destroyed. Many newer structures suffering moderate damage. Important infrastructure, such as bridges, are severely damaged or destroyed. Some areas might be out of power for months. The L.A. economy would be negatively affected for at least a full decade. Roughly 500 dead, and thousands of injuries. Total cost: $400 to $800 billion in damages, but even larger costs due to hampered economic activity (could amount to over $2 trillion)

D. Magnitude: 8.0+
-Absolute devastation throughout the L.A. metro. Many structures & buildings completely leveled. Nearly all infrastructure no longer functioning. The national guard will be on the streets for years. Thousands dead, tens of thousands injured. The L.A. economy might take 15 years to fully recover. If too many people pack up and leave, then it will never be the same. Total cost: $1 trillion+ in damages and additional 7+ trillion in lost economic activity.

I hope it doesn't happen, but a 6.0 to 6.9 quake in the Los Angeles area would be most likely. The faults surrounding LA are not large enough to create a really large earthquake (over 7.5 magnitude).

My prediction?

5.5 to 5.65

Based upon previous results.

But, before this, about a billion (or 2) small quakes that aren't felt, but are detected. (Those in the 0.01 to 2.24 range.)

Anything > 6, is going to cause damage. Especially infrastructure. How much is hard to say.

Sherman oaks too. I was on the second floor of a three story office building and it seem to roll for quite a bit of time.

After the earthquake in 1971 I was on the porch of a house on the beach. The shakes scared me a bit. I think a 4.1 would feel about as strong as the waves hitting a house on the beach.

About 10 years ago there was a 4.2 in the area of the City of San Fernando. I do not remember any mention of it in the news. A magnitude 4.5 or less would get attention but is unlikely to do anything more.
