Tell me about it...I know that Charlotte is on the radar for "best places to move to" because of its cost of living, etc... Yeah it all seems like gold, until you actuallly move here.......Charlotte is a very fickle/conservative city with not that much to do here at all. Like I've always said, if you are into driving little Mark and Mary to soccer practice everyday and mall-hopping every Saturday, then Charlotte is the city for you.

Hey send me those million dollar salary jobs you are turning down, heck, I might even move to the Carolinas for a $250k guarantee since it spends like a million dollars in coastal CA.

The "best places to live" is about far more than affordability it is about availability of jobs, crime statistics, weather, education of the populous and more. There is plenty of nightlife in Charlotte, not to mention ballet, opera, symphony, Broadway musicals and plays, and other cultural events.

You are free to believe LA is some great nirvana, but it sadly isn't so. You may be done with NC for whatever reasons of your own, but I think you won't find what you are looking for in LA, you need to find out what it is you are looking for in the first place and I don't think it is external.

Well if it jobs...they are definitely not here in Charlotte....and from the majority of posts that I read daily, I still see people moving to California, not just Los Angeles...I actually have a cousin who moved there along with the wife and 3 kids about 6yrs ago from Virginia to Aliso Viejo.... He got laid off but the wife was able to obtain employment. We thought for sure after he got laid off, they would head back east...not so.....GRant it...they are trying to make it work..He tell's the family that he will never come back east....thats how much they love it there.

CA and LA are losing population still and the official unemployment rate is about 10.7%, about 25% higher than NC.

As an Executive Assistant of a SVP in Banking, how much do you think I would make in Los Angeles. Don't want to know lowball myself.

THIS^^^

I completely understand your draw to Southern California. I am planning on moving my family of five out there hopefully within the year (if I can sell my house). We won't be making much more than you and we know we can make it work, so you will be fine. That is a great salary for a single person anywhere. I have three kids ages 11, 8 and 2. I am also in my early forties and feel I should have been there years ago. Wanted to live there my whole life. I've visited and I will tell you I never wanted to leave. Go for it. If it doesn't work out, there is always VA.

Good luck and enjoy your new adventure!

Awesome! All 3 of us (you, me and westcoastbabe) might end up in SoCal at the same time.
