I go the other way so all I can tell you is what I see - the 134 is usually moving right along. The 101 can be pretty slow. But you can always take Riverside if the 101 is bad and get on the 134 closer to Olive/Pass. Going home it will be the same way - the 134 should be fine but you'll bottleneck at the 101.

You shouldn't have an issue on the commute being more than 30 minutes. On most days it should be 20 or so. There are a lot of surface street options running east/west if the 101 has a major malfunction (Burbank Blvd, Magnolia Blvd, Ventura Blvd, Riverside, Moorpark, etc.).

If I were you I'd check it out on a weekday commute to see for yourself. Of course, as you get familiar with the commute you'll learn the surface street options as well.

30 to 45 minutes with the worst traffic imaginable between the areas.

Valley Villiage is much cheaper than Studio City and Sherman Oaks. VV is basically North Hollywood.

Commuter Express 549 - LADOT Transit Services
Depending on what part of Burbank you're going to, you might be able to take LADOT Commute Express bus 549. It goes from Sherman Oaks (Sepulveda & Ventura) to the Burbank Media District in 30 minutes.
