Just saw this video of what life on Skid Row is really like.

On Earth? It's like Beverly Hills compared to the the slums of Mumbai, India (1 million people) or Port-au-Prince, Haiti (400 thousand people). Haven't seen any starving people in Skid Row.

I've seen some worse places around Mexico City! I also saw some pretty sad sights down along the Texas/Mexico border. I did a project on them in college for my Mexican-American studies class. They're called Colonias and people make their homes out of found materials without electricity or water. Those families live in 100 degree or higher weather for a good part of the year and cool down by spraying their bodies with a mix of water and rubbing alcohol. It's really sad.

Skid Row will probably always be in LA though maybe a different part as DTLA gentrifies. The weather here and social services attracts homeless from around the country. It's not a good situation at all, but at least they aren't in freezing or blistering hot conditions.

Quite a number of people in this country need help. Although we cannot seem to find the funding to help them, we can somehow manage to funnel billions of dollars a year in foreign aid to Israel. Why is that?

The money is already there on skid row through public private partnership.

You can't legally force people to seeks medical, mental, or addiction treatment.

Since there's so many services freely available in the skid row area, all sorts congregate there including predators as shown by the drug dealer in the video.

My advice is instead of complaining, make a donation to the midnight mission or Weingart foundation and perhaps go volunteer to work one day a week for one of those organizations.

The county and city are currently making efforts to clean up skid row, but unless the law changes to a compassionate one where mentally ill people can be put into treatment, all it's gonna do is push the homeless addicts and mentally I'll into other parts of the city. And no amount of apartments will cure that(these people won't accept shelter of any kind)

For instance, the old guy sleeping next to them. 20 years homeless? Weingart(5th and San Pedro) has a program exactly to take people off the streets and place them in SRO's. For whatever reason, this old guy has failed to take advantage. He should already be placed in housing.

Israel has a lobby, and American Christians would much rather protect the Holy Land(didn't you hear? Jesus is coming back any day now) than help the least among us.

Worst place in LA, probably. Worst place in the world? Doesn't even crack the top 1,000 (probably more).
