Speaking of the whole patient dumping thing I mentioned earlier, one of the LAPD officers assigned to Skid Row posted this recently to the DTLA Facebook group:

Crazy s***.

Google "homeless being pushed out of downtown LA" and you can educate yourself.

It is happening.

And due to Eagle Rock being not that far from downtown, that is where they're ending up.

As I said earlier it was brought to my attention by someone who had worked with the homeless for years.

It goes hand in hand what you now see if you drive down Colorado Blvd through Eagle Rock.

These aren't people who until recently lived in apartments/houses in Eagle Rock and fell on hard times.

Why there are no police cars there for 24h/d?
What do elected officials think about it?

The center of LA... What a shame!
It's a community where a lot of people feel like they can be themselves without being judged. It's the most unsuperficial part of LA. Why should it end?

The police don't need to be there 24h/d.

Who gives a toss what the elected officials think.

You know, many people have a your mindset. I understand the cost and there should be measures taken to futher better the situation.

However, I don't understand the lack of compassion for others just because we want to live for "self" and couldn't care less about others.

Not all people on Skid Row are "junkies". The ones are legitimately seeking help are getting the runaround due to th bureacratic structure of the organizations there.

Remember this, it could be you sitting on Skid Row. Just because you're living the high-life today doesn't mean that is going to be there the next day. No one is immuned from homelessness.

You're correct. Despite the high incidence of drug use and mental illness, it's less superficial than most parts of the city.

Okay, I Googled it. Literally nothing about homeless people being driven out of Skid Row; just a couple articles about how the homeless are spreading out to Lincoln Heights and Boyle Heights of their own accord. Which I would totally believe. Skid Row's population is bursting at the seams and I've seen things get much worse since I got to downtown a few years ago. In the past year I've noticed clusters of tents popping up nightly in areas of DTLA outside of Skid Row- on Spring Street near El Pueblo, and in the Fashion District for example. So I don't think its far fetched to think that some of Skid Row's residents are trying their luck in areas not so saturated with the homeless. That's probably what you're noticing.

But yeah, I'm just not buying that there's some nefarious plot to depopulate Skid Row by moving the homeless to Eagle Rock. It doesn't even make sense as City Hall would have nothing to gain by doing that: both Skid Row and Eagle Rock fall within the boundaries of the city of LA. But if you have a source that proves otherwise then please- by all means post it.

You're right: its just a bohemian community of individuals that have shunned the superficiality of LA. Harmless, really.

Says Martin Lutha Muddafu Kang. Seriously? All sorts of people live in Skid Row including your mum. No I'm just kidding (or am I?). You have no idea of other peoples situations. We all come from different backgrounds. Some people come from backgrounds of child molestation, forced drugs and prostitution. Young teens being rejected for reasons such as being transgender.
