It's been years since I lived in the area but as I recall it was called "Old Town."

I'm sure it depends on where you are when you mention it, since there are other "Old Town" areas, e.g. Old Town San Diego and Old Town Monrovia.

Having lived in Pasadena long before there was ever an "Old Town Pasadena," that's what we call it.

We lived by Cal Tech and also in South Pas, years ago, and we always called it "Old Town". For locals, "Pasadena" was never needed, we knew what "Old Town" meant.

I say, Pasadena or Colorado Blvd. In my opinion, calling it old in any form is amusing and doesn't really describe the place. There are thoroughly new and modern stores, restaurants, etc. there.

Yeah I think most would be surprised to know that it was once a seedy place.
" By the late 1940s, the downtown area was blighted by flop houses, seedy bars and pawn shops. It later became a hippie mecca with head shops, adult bookstores and massage parlors. By the late 1980s, urban renewal was in full swing with the trendy set."

Things are so clean there versus L.A or Santa Monica

I also grew up calling it Old Town (or Old Town Pasadena to be specific), but it seems like now the official name for the area is Old Pasadena.

I don't know anyone who actually calls it Old Pasadena... the newer name seems kind of forced and hasn't really been widely accepted.
