Is that a fact? I've been in the no-call registry for years -- what more can I do, other than unplug the phone?

My hubs got the "suspicious activity with your SS number" a few times a day for a while. There's a special place in hell for those who participate in this crap!

I got mystery calls from Jordan last month. They hang up and hope you'll call them back then charge outrageous long distance fees

My phone will mute all calls except for those in my contact list. At least its not ringing off the hook now.

If you have Spectrum phone you can sign on to your account and enter up to 30 phone numbers that you want blocked. if they call you will hear 1 ring and see "Incoming Call" on your caller ID. As time passes you can wipe out some of the older numbers and enter new ones. You can also activate NOMOROBO on your account.

On a cell phone you can block numbers as they show up on your call list.

It also helps if you screen calls with your caller id and don't answer suspicious numbers. I receive quite a few calls that match my area code but I don't recognize the numbers. Any legitimate callers will leave a message. I do have an answering machine on my phone.

A lot of people don't have home phones anymore. It was a constant nuisance when I had one.
It's a lot less with a cell phone plus you can block callers.

It does seem to have stepped up over the last six months and it’s not just on the landline, but now daily on cell phones as well, mimicking local numbers and making just very slight variations to numbers they’ve previously used.

If you answer and hang up, it gets worse, as by answering you’ve verified that it is an active number. I basically don’t answer calls unless it comes up as a contact. If it’s someone who really wants to get hold of you, they’ll leave a message.

Estimates are that 50% of ALL phone traffic this year will be robocalls. This is a good explanation of why. https://www.marketplace.org/2019/04/...king-robocalls
