There is NOTHING going on now, like back then on the Strip in the 80's... Me and my best friend went every Friday and Saturday night to the Strip for years. IT WAS FANTASTIC!!! I have volumes of photos of us and all the local bands "Flyering" down the strip. You got to meet a Lot of people each night... and we were actually under age when we started going there... Sadly, it all ended in the early 90's. I can still remember the night that it seemed like nothing but cops patrolling the sidewalks... we looked at each other and new it was over. Back then, everyone was beautiful and there is nothing like that now, nor will there ever be again... I cant believe that the people who are into RAVE music etc., think that is really something... What a joke!!!! I can remember seeing Sebastian from Skid Row walking down the Strip alone... he took a double take at us... and we froze!!!! HE WAS unbelievable looking back then!!! Wow... now I miss those days....

I'm working on a doc about Bob Forrest of Thelonious Monster, and I'm looking to license photos of the Strip, like the ones posted here, for use in the film. Please contact me if you're interested.

Yeah, a gril from the Midwest. I went to West Hollywood a few times during the 80's during the glam metal era. Met quite a few rockers. Some friends of mine from Chicago went to LA to try to make it. Their band name was Tommy Gun. I actually ended up going to a party at Vince Neil's house after Warrant's signing party at the Country Club. Partied with the guy's from Ratt and 38 Special. Also, met Slash at another party. It was a time of my life I will NEVER forget!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See, everything was better and more fun back then. We all know how the Strip is now.

The Strip now? B-O-R-I-N-G.
Have you read that book which I recommended to you and which I've mentioned on a few threads?

Amazon.com: Riot on Sunset Strip: Rock'n'Roll's Last Stand in Hollywood (Book) (9781906002046): Domenic Priore, Arthur Lee: Books

Very good history of not just the Strip but the '60s youth counterculture in SoCal and the music, film, art, etc. associated with it. The author's also written books about the Beach Boys (not surprising)

Don't you know we don't read books anymore.

Yes, everything was better when you were growing up. There is nothing in LA that is even close to the old Sunset Strip.

The #1 reason for the decline is those types of attitudes.

An almost four-year old thread!

Speaking of old, does anyone else besides me remember the TV series, 77 Sunset Strip with Ephram Zimbalist, Jr. and Edd Brynes (Kookie, lend me your comb)? It began in 1959 and only lasted a few years.

I don't remember it, as it went off the air when I was 3 years old and never did well in syndication.

Rodney Bingenheimer used to play the theme song and "Kookie Lend Me Your Comb" on his KROQ radio show in the late '70s/early '80s.

As Roy Huggins, the producer/creator/main writer of the show, generally did high quality work on the big and little screens (he was also behind Maverick and The Virginian and co-created The Rockford Files with Stephen J. Cannell) I imagine it was probably good. But it was before my time.
