A lot of nicer areas don't allow you to live out of your car, and you may incur fines and or jail time for doing so. What will you do then with your misplaced bravado?

"Stay out of Malibu Lebowski! Stay out of Malibu, deadbeat!!"

I think that mr Fantastic is just mr Sarcastic.... stirring the pot a little... though i do love reading an online ruckus

To Mr Bungle... I got some friends here in Chi from Cali, and I happen to love my people who were raised in CA... they seem to bring the "right-on man", sunny attitude with them wherever they go (even the couple of more street/thuggish people i know carry that attitude). It seems that someone unfortunately has given you a hostile impression of the opinions of CA natives in other cities!

I want to go there to study, and because I'm originally from Mexico city (approx 20 million people), but have been living for about 10 years in a close-minded town of only 100,000 people. I want to go back to my city life, and Los Angeles seems like a good place for that.

I moved out to L.A. with my family not by choice way back in 1983. As to why people want to move here so bad is mainly I believe because they are fascinated with the constant sunny weather we have got here and many others want to make it really big in the entertainment business. The sad reality is that most of those who try to make it big will fail. If a person already has issues before they move here, let me tell you that the sunny weather does NOT solve their problems. There is much more to life IMO than sun and palm trees. When I came out to L.A. many years ago it was a place where the middle class wage earners could rent or buy a home in a good area for a VERY good price. Now, it is tough, really tough for middle class wage earners to even AFFORD a home in a decent or above average area. That said, I think there still continues to be this obsession with Southern CA. I personally don't understand why. Folks, this place is not a utopia. Another reason why people want to move to L.A. so bad is one word:television!! That's right, they base their decisions based on what the media says about this place. Wrong move! People should do their research and visit before making any move here.

Media images of LA that portrays all of it as looking like Beverly Hills lmao. Seriously, that's the image alot of people (even in foreign countries) think of when they speak of LA. Which of course of changes once they actually move or visit LA and find out that much of LA looks NOTHING like the movie clips on the TV screen...

Do not underestimate the power of mass-media to mold people's opinions...

I've been pondering it, off and on, because I'm a classical musician. We have no places where you can get a DMA in music performance in the Bay Area.. SoCal has three, and two of the best at that (UCLA and USC). You have more and better piano competitions. You have more and better performance venues. You have more of an interest in high culture, compared with the dollar-first, hectic workaholic mentality here. And it costs about the same as living here, so I feel like I'm really getting the worst of all worlds where I'm at. So I may eventually wind up on the other end of the 101..

The best part is Sunset Strip. How amazing does it looks on TV? Especially when you watch "Behind the Music" for 80's rock band getting big from the Roxy, Viper Pit, Whiskey, etc. Then you actual go there and its like 3 blocks and the vast amount of homeless people down the side streets. Then you walk into these famous venues, they only fit like 200 people!
