Midland's economy has seen big benefits from their oil and gas boom. Could the same thing happen in Lubbock?

Will the oil & gas boom reach Lubbock? - KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock

Snyder has really started booming. They have a new Wal-Mart Supercenter, shopping centers, hotels, and housing under construction.

I've read internet chatter about a possible boom in Lubbock, but I guess until it happens, one has the right to be skeptical. Last week, I saw something about a "hit" in the county, but nothing in the news about it.

It will be here in September. George Bush was down here last month and I have heard that they are going to start in September.

I think the boom is everywhere in west Texas now. And north Texas. And east Texas. And south Texas.

I think there are tons of potential well sites, so the drillers are working the areas where it is most convenient to drill for them and that isn't Lubbock. They can only drill so many wells, they only have so many crews and so many rigs. I doubt Lubbock will see any boom.

When a similar situation was taking place in Texas back during the early eighties, the Arabs dumped oil on the market running a lot of banks and oil companies out of business.

I'm not in the area, but I am starting to follow news for the Lubbock area by the Internet. It seems that the oil boom in the Midland-Odessa area is brining in money and people, and that should have a spill-over effect in Lubbock. I also posted (in another thread) that there are plans to develop wind farms to the north, to the east, and to the southeast of Lubbock. Taken together, there could be a rise in property values and a general boost to the economy of Lubbock and the vicinity.
