Where is the best place to live in Maine? You can give reasons or examples too. Don't know which places are great and which are to be avoided. Thanks...

If it's privacy in the woods you're looking for telling you the best place to live is Portland won't be helpful. What are you looking for?

depends on what YOU want/like

Maine has much to offer, from the long coast to mountains, to farmlands, and trees everywhere in between
small towns, large towns, high population density-low population density
do you want to be out in the country-or a city-feel- do you fish, do you hunt,
do you need a hospital nearby?

the only person to answer this question, is you

welcome to the forum

Maine is a large and diverse state.....it offers many different environments....from city to county to coast to north woods....isolated....enriched....conservative....p rogressive....it is impossible for anyone to respond to your inquiry.....you need to do your own research .... and find (as the Shakers sang) "the spot just right".

It is very easy to start a range war here asking people to say what is the best place to live.....what is best for me.....is an anathama to someone else.

Different strokes for different folks. Good Luck!

There really are four or five very different areas in the state, so it's kind of hard to answer.
Alot depends on you.

he London-based Economist Intelligence Unit's (EIU) Liveability Ranking, conducted a worldwide search for the best places to live and visit. Looking at 40 different indicators arranged in five separate categories, including stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure, EIU published some interesting findings. With three cities in the top ten, Canada came out on top due to its low crime, little threat from terrorism and a highly developed infrastructure. The best ranked US cities were Cleveland and Pittsburgh, both ranking 26th in the World.
Vancouver, Canada
Melbourne, Australia
Vienna, Austria
Toronto, Canada
Calgary, Canada

In their opinion, using statistical data and weighting each factor in their viewpoints best manner of weighting them.

100 people could review the same stats and develop completely different lists.

You would still find pocket locales everywhere that prove those completely in error.

Many people would insist that Maine has a high cost-of-living; by the fact that they make such a blanket statement they are pretty much already in error. Because within Maine are also pockets where the cost-of-living can be absurdly low.

Statistical data bases prove little other than to justify someones salary for accumulating the data.

Over our many scouting trips to Maine I have made it a point to visit every single area someone has listed on here as seedy, bad etc. I have found all of them to be 100% better than any bad area I know of in Columbus, Ohio my home city. Now I know my opinion menas nothing (based on a short trip) verses a life time resident, but IMO the worst parts of Maine are heavenly when compared to most others elsewhere. Happy Hunting.
