Now that we live where these things are, do Lay's Potato Chips and McCain potato products count as eating local? The farmers here (such that I've met) who grow for Lays and McCain seem to be very proud of themselves.

Yes, I recognize the irony.

yes, anything from eating a local apple, to a deer is considered "local"

I was up in 8 towns in the "county" last week, and i made it a point to buy local to eat

my church had a "locavore supper" everyone brought dishes that were as local as possible and also "green" which meant lots of creative vegetarian, vegan dishes. The food was delicious. I made a stuffed hubbard (Buxton Maine) and lobster gazpacho.....foam and farm entre.

Absolutely....we buy local and we make sure that we only buy McCain's...they definitely are local! And we get the two local chip brands.... Lay's and Fox Family Chips. (If you've never tried the latter, they're in a silver bag and they are good!)

I personally prefer to support smaller local businesses/farms. "Everyone" knows and eats the larger commercial brands but smaller local outfits, like Fox chips and the farmers that sell at local farmers markets and from a stand in the yard have a much smaller reach. I like to keep my bucks as close to the farmers hands as I can.

LOL, I remember when they were just starting out and had some bags they were giving out at the Washburn Food Mart for people to try. Decent flavor, but those original bags of chips were burnt to a crisp. I mean, burnt, burnt, burnt, almost black. Later chips were very, very good and I was happy they finally got a handle on getting the timing down pat. Still dark because they are more traditional "kettle" style chips. Plus they are a nice family overall, glad they are still turning out chips and being supported locally. My favorite were their BBQ chips.

I love Fox Family Chips. I always looked for the well done ones in regular chips(before they made a machine that finds them and takes them out of the line) Fox Family Chips are like having a whole bag of the well done chips! They have just enough well done flavor! Well done Fox Family.

I guess I'm not far enough north to find Fox Family Chips. I have never seen a bag of them. How far south are they sold?

I have seen them at Hannaford's in Bangor as well as Tradewinds in Corinth, where I bought my first bag.
