Well, we've done it. Moving to Maine, for good (and indeed, it is good) in 2 weeks!

Congratulations and best of luck with your move! We lived in SE Wisconsin (Lake Geneva area) for 20 years, and visited Chicago often. We moved to Maine 3 years ago and love it here!

Congrats on your new home. I lived in Cumberland Center, kids went to Greely. A couple of fun tidbits about Yarmouth. In the summer ice cream at Toots just west from Yarmouth towards North Yarmouth is great on a hot summers day. The public pathway along the Royal River is awesome.
Only 10 min up the road to Freeport and alot of shopping, where nothing is free BTW...lol.

In the winter they fill up an area next to the Academy for a public skating, right out of a Currier and Ives scene. Portland is only 20 minutes down
295, lots of great stuff to see, do and eat.

The airport is maybe 40 min from Yarmouth. In Yarmouth on US 1 is a good sized Hannafords, fairly new Shaws supermarkets in Freeport and Falmouth on US1, fairly new Whole Foods in Portland right off of I295 so maybe 20/25 min away.

That whole mid coast area has alot to offer. Enjoy.

Congrats on the success. For a lazy Sunday breakfast, check out Stones Cafe & Bakery in N. Yarmouth- good eats and they've got a hash that'll knock your socks off.

Congrats on the new house and the move. I hate moving. It's a good feeling when it's over.

Oh, Thank you everyone.
We spent our first night in the house on Tuesday, and are up to our elbows in boxes.
We love the house. The days, as you know, have been fairly hot, and our daughter asked "when are we going to get the AC set up?" She was astonished that we don't have air conditioning and aren't going to get it. Then, quite timidly she asked, "will we have heat?"

Yay!
So we are now only up to our knees in boxes. It's a slow process. But we are just delighted to be in Yarmouth. We're starting all the getting-to-know activities. Going to church(es), finding restaurants, carpenters, dry cleaners, ice cream (Toots!), transfer station, . . . it's amazing how much there is to do.

The clam festival is coming, and we live fairly close to the grounds - so that will be exciting. What should we not miss at the festival?

And, does anyone have recommendations for places to:
get new tires for my old bicycle?
sit on a beach?
take the dog/cat for shots etc?
order in food (I'm an ex- NYC girl and old habits die hard).

Thanks everyone!

Reid State Park and Popham Beach are the best in the area for this time of year.

Beaches southward are nice, but this time of year, you'll be cheek to jowl on weekends.
