I would say, if you can just get DH to GO to Maine for a visit, he'd surely fall in love with the place and the wonderful people and be much easier to convince. Good luck!

PS. Don't take him during MUD season!! Might hurt your chances.

"mud season" is the period just following the breaking up of the ice along the rivers, and ponds. The snow hasn't all gone (generally) but continues to melt daily. The ground is thawing but not quite quickly enough to absorb all of the runoff. Unpaved driveways and roads become rutted, and the ground is very boggy, or spongy wet. Cars are usually 43-50% mud.

New England houses traditionally have a mud room built into the entrance for changing boots and outer wear.

Also depending on the region, might last from March 'till May. No word of lie, even on some of the tar roads, there is so much wet underneath, the ride feels like waves under your tires. Not unlike a boat!

Mud season is more of a seasonal event in northern New England then in southern New England; in CT, RI southern and south eastern Mass. inc the Boston area, this season is less of a problem.

Although as the ground thaws, it can become rather sloppy even here- but not near the magnitude of the north, unless we enter spring with a heavy snow pack, which is not usual.

Generally the 'mud' lasts till late April.
