Looking for secondhand or inexpensive winter gear, kids and adults, Blue Hill to Bangor area? And, suggestions for secondhand women’s clothing? Or reasonably priced local shops? Almost everything I had was lost in an apartment fire last February, and I need basics like socks, sweaters, gloves, hats, boots. Thank you!

There's an LL Bean Outlet just outside Bangor - 534 Stillwater Ave, Bangor, ME 04401. (207) 942-0146. And another one in Ellsworth, which I think is closer to Blue Hill - 150 High St, Ellsworth, ME 04605. (207) 667-7753. Lots of practical outerwear at LL Bean's, and the outlets offer good deals.

Thank you - that’s a great idea! Ellsworth is only 15 minutes from me, and I’m heading up to Bangor tomorrow to pick up my laptop. Broken glasses and no computer make research more challenging, and very blurry! I appreciate the help

as Austin said if you want economical ...goodwill theirs also a mardens in ellsworth

also look on facebook "market" pages and look on maines craigslist or uncle henrys'
many "town" facebook pages and their is a component of neighbors trying to help neighbors...particularly in your situation....even in my small town.... people will post and others will help.... one lady couldn't get her generator going and two guys went over to help for free.. the other day

not sure if ll bean and cheap go hand in hand...and yes ive been in that store several times..

also try reny's in ellsworth

I also look on ebay for anything economical... just to check/compare

Downtown Ellsworth has two second hand stores, one on Main and one on Water. Blue Hill has a very nice second hand shop, can't remember the name. Good Will in Ellsworth has been mentioned. Marden's in Ellsworth and Brewer have great prices on new salvage. Most everything is in A1 condition but give stuff the sniff test as sometimes there is smoke damage. Reny's is a new merchandise discounter also, and not salvage.

In fact, second hand stores are very plentiful in this area.

I don't know the area and I don't know about clothes, but don't forget about Craigslist and FB Marketplace for FREE items people want to give away as well as Freecycle groups.

They're not charities. It's people who are trying to get rid of stuff they don't need rather than throw it out.

In Winter I shift over to wool [pants, shirts, socks]. We have friends who shop at Goodwill and Salvation Army, they keep their eye out for any wool stuff that may float through those stores. Most of my Winter clothing I have gotten from 'Maine Military Supply' in Holden.

Thank you for the suggestions!

I checked LL Bean, but even the factory store iis not my budget right now. But - I found a lot of secondhand LLbean items on Craigslist. I don’t use Facebook but I’m thinking of trying it again, for the marketplace and community type pages - great idea! I will check out Goodwill in Ellsworth and the others. And I think a small secondhand store is just down the road from my house, near the Blue Hill/ Surry line? I’ve been driving around sightseeing so much, I’ve lost track! It seems secondhand items are plentiful - and I’m grateful, we need real winter stuff.

(I’m with you,Submariner, all about wool no matter the season, and I’ve always used it on my kids).

Thank you!
