I took a combo whale/puffin trip out of Bar Harbor in August. The combo tour is done for the season, but there are still whale watches available until Oct 31. If you are in the Bangor area, you are only about an hour away from Bar Harbor.

The website for the company is: Bar Harbor Whale Watching Tours They guarantee that you will see a whale on the trip or you can come back another day. I did see a whale, actually 6, and a glimpse of puffins in the fog, but you could tell they were puffins. They can make this guarantee because they use sonar to track the whales. No guarantee on the puffins though.

I do strongly advise warm clothing as it gets cold on the water. There is a heated cabin on the first level. Unfortunately, one of the negative aspects of the whale watch is that a number of people became seasick. (I did not.) So if you are prone to seasickness, take medication.

Ruth and Wimpy's in Hancock was very much in business as of August. Very busy. There is a restaurant nearby in Sullivan for sale and that is Chester Pike's.
