Hi, I'm new to the forum. My husband and I (and 2 high school aged kids) may be moving to Southern Maine in the next month. He may have a job near Kittery. I've never been there and looking online it seemed that Wells High School ranked really high.

We're looking for a small to medium sized town that's friendly and near the beach if possible. We aren't going to have a ton of money so an affordable, but safe area is ideal. We have never been to Maine (are from Pittsburgh) and know nothing at all about the area.

Absolutely anything you can tell me about the area and good schools/towns in Southern Maine would be so appreciated! Thanks in advance!!!!

ive worked in wells, its quite the touristy area this time of year, route 1 can be bumper to bumper,,but most of the year it is a very nice area, wells has awesome beaches!!
you'd want to go inland a ways for more reasonable home values.

good luck, come up for a visit, look around, get a feel for what area you like

Wells is a very large town, area -wise. It borders four different communities. I don't have kids in school to vouch for the educational facilities, but I hear the system is adequate. There is a community college and lots of beachfront venues. There is also ample conserve land that consists of varied woods, marsh, field, and river frontage. Four area golf courses within 15 miles. Home prices are average, taxes are low to average in the state. The farther from route 1 and points east, the more affordable the housing.

Saco is a really nice town.....I recommend that you look into it. Also you might want to research Kennebunk (as opposed to Kennebunkport). Good Luck to you.

Default move to wells?

I was curious what you decided about your move? My husband is currently commuting to Kennebunk and pushing a move to Wells or Kennebunk (or the area...but for schools I've narrowed it down to those 2).
Btw, I'm also originally from Pittsburgh...but currently in NH. Let me know what you found out in researching towns! thanks.
