I used to be a teacher in MoCo, and now I am a guidance counselor. MoCo is very competetive when it comes to hiring but there are ways to get the advantage. First, send your resume to human resources, and a cover letter with references. Make sure your packet is complete so that they have all your info on file. Next, I would continue to call human resources, and also call schools, you can look on their vacancy database for vacancies. If you are special ed certified, that is always another way to get in faster. If you are a minority, that is also a plus, or if you speak another language. MoCo tends to be very picky with new hires, and then at the end of the summer around the end of August, they go on a hiring frenzy because they still need to fill positions. Hope this helps!!!

I agree! This is how I got hired - I graduated with my master's in early August, and got hired the Friday before the New Teacher Orientation started.

Ask away! I taught 6th grade reading and 7th grade English in MoCo and this year I will be a 6th/7th Language Arts teacher (Reading + English) in BaltCo

why did you move from MoCo? Do you like teaching in Baltimore County? There must be a pay decrease right?

Yes, there is a pretty big decrease. I haven't started my job yet, so I don't know if I like it. I actually met my husband through eHarmony about a year and a half ago. He owned a condo up here, and had just bought it, so I moved in. I have been commuting to Bethesda and it sucks, so I wanted somewhere closer. My new school is closer, but still a drive. I do like knowing I don't have to rely on BOTH beltways on my commute!
