I honestly don't know how I can be more prepared. But I fear all my work will not matter if for some reason the generator does not start should it be needed. Starts on the first pull but never been tested when it was not a drill.

OMG, Dave. Same thing just happened to us. Started on the first pull...then no. Back to the old fashioned way. Candles, blankets and Flashlights. LOL. Fingers crossed we keep power!

I have found the best way to get power back on if we lose it. I simply buy dry ice. As soon as I do power is restored within 2 hours. Back when Hurricane Isabel came through power went out. I went out and bought 10 lb of Dry Ice. Not 1/2 an hour after I got home power came back on. Then in the big snow storm of 2010 our power went out I wasn't worried about the freeezer for the first couple days but on the third day I was getting concerned and bought some dry ice. Got it home and in the freezer. About 1.5 hours later our power came back on. Those are the only times I've been concerned about the power and the only time it has been out for more than an hour or so.

Where you are Isabel was almost a non-entity. We didn't have power for 5 days, some areas of Calvert was 2 weeks.

The ice storm of 20 or so years ago had some people in Southern Maryland were out for 3 weeks, I was 6 days.

Check back in after you're done shoveling out Sunday night, especially if the plow trucks off load by your car.

And risking the life of people that MUST be out (emergency personnel, firefighters, medical personnel, etc.) - grow up and stay home.

I will be okay with it! Every Winter I hope for at least one Blizzard! Shoveling is a good workout (and I am 58 years old)!

I'm always surprised (though not really) to hear about the number of people who hit the roads (for joy rides and sightseeing) when roads become impassable and borderline death traps. Or the folks who have to run out to make a quick stop at the local gas station or convenience store because they need to pick up some ketchup or a pack of cigs.

Though to some extent, I believe the media is to blame for some of the hype and scare. For the most part this storm is serious and should be treated accordingly.
