We seem determined to mess this up. The kids FINALLY are STARTING to get back into the schools more than one day a week up here, but no not good enough. People have to pack all the bars, we have to have Spring football games because we missed them in the Fall, etc.

We are a year into this pandemic and people still don't get it.

Most of the bigger EU countries are experiencing a surge.
France is closing schools again. Germany back in lockdown.
All due to the UK variant which is dominating.
The US tends to be 3-5 weeks behind the EU.

Costly Oops in Baltimore......

Quote:
— J&J subcontractor ruins 15 million vaccine doses: Future shipments of Johnson & Johnson’s coronavirus vaccine will be delayed after one of its subcontractors ruined 15 million doses at a Baltimore factory over the last several weeks, according to two U.S. officials with direct knowledge of the situation. J&J had hired the company, Emergent BioSolutions, to manufacture the active ingredient, or drug substance, of the vaccine at its plant in West Baltimore. Workers at the facility mistakenly mixed ingredients for the J&J vaccine with those of another manufacturer’s coronavirus shot, according to the two officials.

And it's not just those two issues. FDA has cited them several times......

Quote:
Emergent’s revenues skyrocketed during the Trump administration, jumping from around $523 million in 2015 to more than $1.5 billion in 2020. The company has invested heavily in lobbying the federal government, according to disclosure records, which show the company spent $3.6 million on lobbying in 2020 alone

8 million doses administered in the US over the past 2 days. Really impressive stuff. Maryland's also been doing much, much better when it comes to getting shots in arms. We're now sitting at 1/3 total pop (33.3%) vaccinated, compared to the US avg of 31.4%.

MoCo's finally getting a state mass vax site this week. 3,000 shots a day which is great, though I'm sure plenty of people are still going to be driving down to Salisbury or out to Oakland to actually find available slots.

I got my second shot this week. My arm was sore for about 36 hours and I took a couple of good naps, but other than that, no side effects.

Happy to see the pace picking up.

Glad to here it. I can’t say my second one was easy (high fever, chills and aching) but I made it through.
