I don't really think that Mom's and Trader Joes are alike. Trader Joe's has limited fresh produce and no bulk by-the lb. products. But their prices are terrific and once in awhile they have some wonderful one-time suprises, especially around the holidays. THey are not totally organic. THe staff is very helpful and friendly. I love TJ. Mom's is much bigger and I think totally organic with prices to match. It's more like Whole Foods but without the ambiance.

The local paper said Wegmans is due to open 2009, that is if the union folks don't get it kicked out.

I drove by the new Trader Joe's today. I wanted to see if they were open. They weren't. They had a sign up saying they were accepting applications. For what it's worth, my sister who works for them in Seattle says they are a great place to work. Inside the store itself, I saw they had shelves up so they must be getting close to opening.

Drove by yesterday. There's a sign up saying they open on November 2!!!

Yeah, the Wegman's site mentions a Columbia store, but date is still TBD.

Trader Joe's in Columbia is now open. I stopped by today around 7:15 p.m. and it was jumping. I guess a lot of people wanted to see what they have. I tried some of their sushi and it was really good. Their hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., open every day. I was delighted to hear that. It'll make it really easy to shop there.

I think the Costco recently opened.
Went to Trader Joe's also. People seemed to be really going for the fish and I saw some excellent prices on the hummus-type dips. I'll be going back.
