Actually..I said in MA
I think Woonsocket could also be considered a city. Though I am not sure about the nightlife.

Generally most people end up socializing with those they work with like after work drinks and dinner. House parties, etc. Many have met their spouse at work or work related events.. Do not discount that if one is working in Worcester, ones social life might revolve around Worcester so being close to Worcester will have its advantages.

It's a good point, though he is in his mid-40s and in my personal experience socializing with coworkers outside work drops dramatically past the mid 30s.

Yeah but you're still far more likely to meet somebody through work than at some random bar, which realistically just doesn't happen.

Agree. Though you may be looking for specific activities to join where you can meet friends. Like a group of amateur photographers or something along those lines.
