These are made for children despite what the warning label says. No reasonably minded person is going to pay ten bucks for one single chip that can't even be eaten.

After reading the article below it sounds like the nurse called the mother because the boy had fainted:

https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/boston/n...massachusetts/

He then apparently went home and passed out again and they took him to the ER where he died. Very strange. I'm sure they wish they took him to the ER after the first time he fainted. Very sad.

Thanks for posting this.

Anyone still think it's unrelated?

This one too:

It also sounds like this chip challenge is not new. I found a few articles about it from a year ago where people wanted to ban it.

I'm not saying it's completely unrelated but an underlying issue could have been happening. Do you not find it odd that a healthy 14 yr old would just die hours after eating a spicy chip ? The human body should be a little more resilient but sadly this kids wasn't.

The kid had autism, where extreme sensitivities to certain foods, chemicals, etc. are quite common.

You're right. Found this:

While the immune system does not respond to allergens in food, certain foods can still cause digestive discomfort, pain, and distress. Casein and gluten are two commonly reported culprits in children with autism. Autistic children are more likely to struggle with stomach pain, diarrhea, and constipation.

Seems like he wasn't being supervised very well if he ate this chip at school. Not sure how much oversight teachers have of what the kids are eating but surely someone should have known if this one chip challenge was happening at school.

the chip company is pulling the chip off the shelves:

It does say, keep out of reach of children. This kid was very unlucky.

It's odd to me that he did the chip challenge in school as well. THe kid is already autistic, he must be in a special classroom. None of the teachers knew this was happening with a chip meant not to be consumed by kids?

Also not sure why the mother is blaming the school for not sending him on to the hospital when she was the one who took him home without taking him to the hospital...until he passed out again
