Agree, but that condo example has an incredibly low HOA fee. I'd spend $250/mo vs yard/snow work.

$131K salary is needed to afford the 'average' home in MA. Seems a little low....more like $230K salary is needed to afford an average home in MA! https://www.gobankingrates.com/loans...in-your-state/

One person dies in Sudbury mansion fire. I'll be curious to hear what the cause of this blaze was. Makes me wonder if these 9,000 sq ft monstrosity homes are so big the occupants don't know what could be going on in certain rooms....like something catching fire and by the time they find out...it's too late? https://www.wcvb.com/article/crews-b...owest/46880413

Hard to imagine a house like that would not have a decent alarm system.

When the HOA is that low, it typically covers the absolute minimum. In the example on the last page, the $248 covers master insurance (you'd still have to your own homeowner policy on top of it), sewer, and water. You'd still be on the hook for yard work and snow removal. Our previous place had fairly low HOA fees for similar reasons. I was out shoveling every time it snowed (no yard to maintain, however).

Also, when it's time to replace big things like the roof...since this condo fee doesn't cover exterior maintenance....you have to hope and pray you get along enough with the owner of the other half of the building to come to terms when it's time to pay for it! This could turn into real nightmare depending on who you end up with for a neighbor.

I don't understand why houses are built like that. Wouldn't it make more sense to truck in some dirt and make the ground level?
