My Husband and I are thinking of moving to Plymouth. My job is flexible and allows me to transfer to Plymouth and his does not. Which means that he would be commuting from Plymouth to Newton right off of 128...

He would need to drive and I am wondering what people's experience is commuting from there... time wise and stress level...

Also.. if anyone has any information on the school system's in Plymouth that would be GREATLY appreciated.. as well as any info on Plymouth..

That would be a very long commute. Traffic along Rt. 3 and Rt. 128 is horrible in the morning/afternoon. I commuted from Plymouth to Waltham for a couple of years and I would not recommend it to anyone. Rt. 3 is the worst...2 lanes that are bumper to bumper traffic from exit 12 all the way into the city.

As for Plymouth itself, Plymouth North HS is extremely old and outdated, South less so, it opened in the late 80's/early 90's. Taxes are pretty high in Plymouth for the services you get (not all homes have town water/sewer). I do have to say, Plymouth has improved over the last 10-15 years as far as businesses moving into town, etc.

Would you be willing to split the difference and consider something a further north along Rt 3 such as Hanover or Rockland? One can get a little creative and go through Blue Hills, etc. but I agree, that's a tough ride. We're in Scituate and I am fortunate enough to have public transportation to my job in downtown Boston. I know some folks who battle it out on the highways (including one going from Scituate out to I-90/495...but he does it out of necessity.

Wow, I just commuted from Natick to Plymouth for the past 2 weeks and the commute took from 7:35am - 8:40am. That was with very little traffic. Going the other way, I would see it bumper to bumper pretty much from Weymouth off Rt-3 all the way to Newton (Rt-3 to I-93 to 128). I can't imagine how that commute would be done in under 1h45m - 2 hrs during rush hour. During school vacation week (no traffic at all) it would take me 40 minutes to get from the Rt-9 exit off 128 to Rt-3 exit 9 in Kingston. So if you figure a little traffic plus time on the local roads, it's probably about a 1-hour commute for your husband if he leaves early, like 6 or 6:30am.
