Is it a bad idea? UTube must not think so. They wouldn't be doing it if the videos were not hurting their revenue.

UTube's self-censorship isn't actually a bad thing.
If the material is actually popular and does generate revenue, there's a big fat opportunity for an extreme version of UTube to rise and grab those multi-millions of ad revenue for itself.

That is, if UTube doesn't reverse itself and put it all up again first. That would be easy-peasy for them.

Either way, the dollars do all the talking, not the armchair generals, on the internet.
Free speech is free. UTube needs to make money to survive. If those extreme political vids were big cash generators, they wouldn't be getting eliminated.
Youtube lost BILLIONS of dollars over the last couple of years, if I remember correctly.

A big reason for that is due to demonetization or outright deletion of tons of channels and videos.

The vast majority of the channels and videos being deleted were often fairly popular (but far-right), more so than a lot of the "mainstream" news channels now being pushed by Youtube/Google.

So it is definitely not just money involved in the decisions, but also political.

Youtube is basically attempting to prop up the MSM as well as the entertainment industry.

AND they are attempting to control the political narrative and shut down truth seekers...

I'm sure there's a lot more views for cute cat videos than for any of the political videos.

Like Facebook, UTube is a social website that was gradually highjacked by politics. Politics isn't, and never was, the money-maker for either website, but it was getting far more attention than it deserved. If the members in either website drop out and quit them, that's a huge loss of income for both of them.

Those social websites can collapse too. Myspace was once the big dog in that area, but Facebook killed it pretty easily by offering a more friendly format.

UTube and Facebook both know they are as vulnerable, so they're taking the measures that need to be taken to keep their revenue streams intact. Their competition is already tough enough as it is in their primary and most important viewerships.

I remember Myspace a bit and I still have memories of ICQ.

Youtube wants to be another CHANNEL and have people pay to watch their content. They don't care about YOU anymore. They are actively pulling the plug on non extreme channels now, just people who happen to not hate Trump mostly. Nobody should be happy about that, everyone should be scared and angry.

It is why more and more creators have been migrating to or at least also publishing to alternate sites like Bitchute, LBRY, etc.
