I think how you dress has an effect on behavior as well.
we need to bring back dresses.

I, too, feel sorry for the unsuspecting tourists who came to Miami Beach for this past weekend. They had no clue...and to see this...sigh. Makes Miami Beach look like a sh*thole. I also feel bad for anyone who just moved there, within the last year and had NO idea that this weekend would be like that. I really don't want to hear, "they should have done their homework" because a person should be able to live and be at peace there...this is NOT the norm.

Look at the garbage all over the sidewalks and streets. (No, I'm not talking about the people, necessarily.) That's embarrassing! People who don't know any better, some tourists, will go away thinking this is how Miami Beach is all the time.

I'm glad to be out of there, I don't miss it one bit but I do want better for that city. This crap doesn't help at all. I wish that city would do something about it. I'm sure the cops there don't particularly look forward to that weekend either.

Some businesses do close for Memorial Weekend because it is just isn't worth the extra hassle. And some locals leave this weekend to avoid the craziness that this weekend brings. Eventually Miami Beach will probably put an end to it I suspect like Freaknik, but right now it brings in money.

I have a friend of mine who had family come in that weekend once and stayed on Miami Beach they were terrified and said they would never come back again. I am sure there are plenty of people that this happens too. Thankfully the vast majority of hotel rooms would be already sold to the people who want to come to that weekend.

It would be against the law for Miami Beach to do anything about it. They cannot tell people they cant come to Miami Beach this weekend or not hold certain events.

It is filled with terrible people and violence.

I was at the lincoln road theater on Saturday and I was beyond surprised how calm and quiet it was. I did not think there would be much going on, by the Alton Road area but parking was easy, traffice wasnt terrible and the movie theater was a little less busy then usual with a normal crowd. Leaving Miami Beach at 12:30am there was A LOT of traffic coming in but I was very happy with how calm the western area of Miami Beach was. Another thing about the people who come in for this weekend is their driving. It is terrible by Miami standards wheather in their rental cars or raised up 30inch rims cars. Saw someone on the side of the road who was ran over in Sunny Isles last night police were just responding.
However the one good thing that comes from this is how easy it is to not worry about speed limits since the majority of police officers are in Miami Beach

This weekend wont come to end unless buisnesses close down and clubs clsoe down and that is not going to happen. All we can do is avoid the area and hope the cops do a good job. Which they have been doing.

I can't quite figure out what happened here. My impression is the guy in the car that stopped got shot by someone else driving down the street. Note fours shots rang out then he stopped. I'm guessing that's why he stopped, because he was shot. But then the cops come and essentially execute him. I haven't heard what the real story was, but jeez - WTH?

Since the news as far as I can see has not put out a statement about who the driver was that the cops killed, I'm assuming there's a reason the cops haven't put out a statement yet, and that that reason is probably not going to any good news. Somehow, I just get the feeling those cops shot the wrong guy.

The festival should be turned into a patriotic celebration of those who have given their lives in the war on terror and historical conflicts, those who gave it all to protect life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. Getting drunk at a backyard barbecue is bad enough, but a weekend block party in which you see drunk people by 10 am is just downright disrespectful. It should NOT be just "activists" who want to see the event go.
