This is not the type of tourism that Miami Dade or Miami Beach wants to promote. I think City and/or county officials must step up and just simply refuse or push to discontinue this uncivilized type of weekend at South Beach. Yes, uncivilized, ruthless, and dangerous folks that are attracted to this event. Of course not all that attend are trash, but this event draws a high percentage of trash and thugs.

Yikes. I'm not familiar with the festival that goes on this weekend every year, but from what I've heard this is not the first time problems have broke out.

3 policemen were injured. 1 from Hialeah and two from Miami beach

This garbage needs to go. Who brought this trash here? How many policemen have to die for this "urban" festival to go away? What is more valuable human lives or the extra cash this garbage brings to Miami beach?

They allow it b/c they are bunch of greedy mother F...s . That place becomes a zoo. It's embarrassing when you have visitors from out of town during this weekend.

Why can't they just move the "party" / festival to Opalocka or ?

I read in a Miami Herald article that an Ocean drive restaurant is closing at least on Sunday and Monday. The GM of the 11th street diner on Washington Avenue said she ends up calling the police 10-15 times each year because people refuse to pay their bills. She also has an "armed manager" on duty at nights.

Maybe if many of the local businesses in South Beach band together and decide to close their businesses during memorial day weekend as long as this event comes to town, a strong message will be sent. In reality, this weekend is more of an inconvenience to some of these businesses than it is worth considering safety, shoplifting, and low revenues to some of these establishments.

Many of the loyal locals of these businesses either go out of town this weekend or stay indoors for their own safety.

This is one of numerous incidents this weekend, this one was extreme enough to get into the news, others were not.

I am getting sick of these types just taking over areas, and normal people just end up fleeing to get out the place. The police and government seem to not want to do anything that would amount to a permanent solution.

Sure, this is one weekend, but a weekly occurrence in many cities across the US. These types move in and basically destroy what hard working people created. Then when the hard working folks move on, and these ghetto thugs destroy everything around, they move on yet again to the areas where normal folks are residing and built up.

What sucks is that a person can hardly be poor and not live around these types, or someone has to pay higher than can afford housing just to get away from these idiots.

By the way, I was wondering why the all of sudden increase in ghetto thugs in and around Miami this weekend, I went out Saturday and they were some of the most obnoxious, loud mouth, line jumping idiots I have ever came across while living in Miami. It was obvious many of them were not from Miami. I was thinking there was some special event occurring for them all to be here.

Not quite the same crowd with other events, like the boat show, Key Biscayne tennis, Art Basil, etc. Not even with that recent electronic music festival with hordes of teenagers.

This is disgusting. This urban fest must end. It attracts the wrong kind of crowd.

Meh, this is nothing. No explosions, cars flipping out, helicopters crashing, bazookas, etc... You might as well be in Coral Gables lightning your own fireworks.
