When I lived down in Dadeland I've noticed a significant, but relatively small, percentage of people that were Asians or of Asian descent in some of the complexes down there. It was that area of Dadeland that's just east of US-1, within Pinecrest.

I noticed that too. I think they all go to UM... but that's just a wild guess.

There aren't that many Asians for the obvious reason.
Stereotypical Miami culture is the opposite of everything that is traditionally Asian.
It isn't geography, because there are large populations residing in the North East Coast.
Also, Miami is extremely saturated with Latin culture. It's unlike many other major U.S. cities. It's a flamboyant town, it parties late, and Spanish is highly suggested.
I just don't see it sitting well with the Asian population. It just would not happen...

Back in the 70's there was a rather large population of Asians from Cuba, there was even a Little China in Little Havana. They were all of Cantonese extraction and spoke Chinese with a lot of intermingling Spanish words. They own most Chinese restaurants with the word "Canton", or related to Canton. There were also a small colony of Vietnamese and Koreans.
Cantonese culture is important in Latin culture.
If you are suggesting that all Chinese work like coolies and don't like to party, you're grossly wrong.

because most Asian immigrants come here with the goal of attaining high levels of world class education and sending their children to good schools

Funny thing, but I know a woman who can't get a job in Miami because she only speaks Spanish.
