There were not Caribbeans in Cuba, only in the lesser Antilles.
In Cuba there were Tainos, Siboneyes and Guanacabibes.
Very peaceful indians that died mostly from flu and mistreatment.

You say you live part of the time in Cuba. Then you should know that the bulk of the Cubans that live on the island are EXTREMELY creative. They have learned to survive and they try to carry that into their new "home" when they reach the states whatever which way.

I am in the midst of these Cubans constantly. Know a few quite well. It is enlightening how crafty they are and the differences stand out like a sore thumb. Never mind what the Cubans that have been here 50 years think. Those that have only been here 5 or 10 years do already have a different mentality and have "assimilated" to a great degree. They may not have learned English but they end up having to bust their butts eventually. Nobody, not even family, is going to support them forever while they watch soap operas and drink beer all day. So they scrub toilets if they have to so they can go to Cuba to show off.

Why should they learn English? The problem is that there is no motivation for them in Miami, it comes easy. You dont even need to know English, and with the demographics, what's the point? Everywere you go - espanol. Where's the motivation to learn English if everyone around you either: A. doesnt know English either, B. doesnt care to learn it, and C. everyone speaks spanish anyway?

mr. castro has indeed managed to bring the standard of elementary education to the highest level in the world. unsubstantiated claims of 99.9% is what I have seen. whether the real figure is less than claimed is largely academic I agree that the elementary level of cuban education is at a higher percentage than the united states and furthermore of better quality.

those are the pros to mr. castro's regime now let's examine the cons.

with mr. castro's stifiling of the cuban economy what emerged almost immediately was a thriving black market. in time this black market has become very sophisiticated. due the nature of black market economies where people are forced to steal from the government (in cuba's case) people are forced to become liars, pilferers and thieves. since the castro regime owns everything then all cuban citizens must become criminals by definition. what has happened in cuba is that you have ten million highly experienced criminals. you have well educated women who become jineteras (prostitutes) in order to buy basic needs. cuba is probably the leading destination for the euro sex holiday trade in the world and that would include every manner of sex and sexual deviants. guess what they do when they land upon our shores? do you think that they suddenly experience a paradigmatic shift in their philosophy?

now on to the rest of the americas. I had the oportunity to work extensively in all of the americas and much of the caribbean. I have been in every country in central and south america often for months long stays as I was responsible creating networks of distribution for north american and european products lines.

I know the americas very very well. I am completely fluent in spanish and portuguese and am told that I speak with no perceptible accent though in portuguese they can't quite place from what region I come.

I can tell you with the complete certainty that comes from thirty years of business dealings, the character of the latin american (in general) is universal. never mind that one place is amerind, the other african and the third euro the jamaican adage of out of many, one people applies.

have you heard of alienware computers? the company was started by friends of mine. they were bought out by dell. dell is having major issues with their cuban programmers at alienware due to major communication issues with these programmers. speaking "english" is not speaking english.

Cuba is one element of the Americas, and it is isolated from the rest of the world by the Castro brothers.

Second, 44 million people in the U.S. speak Spanish and it is also the most widely taught second language in our education system.

USA does not have an official language

Many states are bilingual English/Spanish, and more citizens are learning it everyday.

Canada is bilingual too English/French

Europe is mainly bilingual or trilingual... people in Canada and Europe is encouraged to learn more than one language.

All the economies in the Americas are growing. The countries are more organized. Remember that all the countries in the world cant be rich at the same time...it is a global market and there are limited resources. If one county expands its economy, other will become poorer.

I agree with you when you say the Americas is being exploited by Europeans...well, that always has been the issue.... In Cuba, people already know that "Miami no es fácil". "Not easy".
People that venture there know it.
If they don't want to work, they stay in Cuba with "el invento" ("the invention").
Nobody dies of hunger there, and they are all dress up for the "fiesta".
So Cuba is packed with people and cities in which nobody works and they all survive and have fun. One of the greatest mysteries in the history of mankind.
Of course, the Cuban that goes to Miami knows he's got to work and not steal in the job.
Freeloaders prefer to be in "misiones" working for Chavez and preserving their rights and properties in Cuba than in Miami.
