For those interested , the Mackinac Bridge Authority is considering closing the bridge, its still open, speeds reduced to 20 mph,4 way flashers and outside lane travel required. High profile vehicles will be the first to be restricted to cross.... I expect the Bridge to close to all traffic sometime this afternoon. If you are considering crossing soon, check with the Authority or the MDOT before you get there.Tune your radio to 1610 for local updates.

We have had several warnings and they slowed the elevators down. I think that I will go home and work from there before they make us walk down 68 flights of stairs (34 floors).

Winds fromthe south are very bad for us becuase of the way our house is set up. We have some things that are protected as long as the winds come from the West as usual. South or East winds can do a lot of damage, especially to the chickens. Braaawwk!

We dodged a bullet on the storm, but according to NOAA, the sustained wind throughout the next 24 hours is going to push Lake Michigan to 12 - 20 foot waves:

Looks like US 2 in the UP would be a great place to be right about now.

It's so bad that I got confused that I had to convince myself it was not just a normal rainy day. Sprinkle here and sprinkle there with gray clouds.

That could be right ! Chicago is getting hit hard now, all coming onshore.
Sitting on my mountain top now , looking down on the Superior shore , the lake looks quite clam. Its partly sunny, rain has stopped , in the 60s , with ominous clouds, and strong wind gusts...it ain't over yet !... By the way , the Mac Bridge is still open, but all high profile vehicles are required to cross only with a provided escort. The back/up at the portals are getting a little crazy, if the wind increases its quite likely they will shut down the Bridge for a while.

It's been blowing like crazy all day here, but just of and on light rain. It was sunny all afternoon, but now it is back to drizzle and high wind. What little rain there is is blowing sideways.

I lost the roof on my greenhouse this afternoon. Wind gusts got so bad it just blew it off one panel after another. I'm just sick. My furnace is out there totally exposed to winds, cold and whatever rain we are going to get. I tried to cover it, but all tarps just blow right off. It literaly has no roof over it whatsoever.

And a time last winter the gusts were so strong I literally had to hang onto the car while pumping gas to avoid getting knocked over.
I may get over to Petoskey tomorrow to grab some pics of the monster waves splashing over the breakwall. These storms are fascinating.

I wish this would happen on a saturday when I have time to drive over to the lake to watch the waves. Nothing more impressive than watching the waves out on the lakes. Ludington or Grand haven would be a great place to be. THe pier in Marquette likely has some impressive waves breaking over it today as well. I just hope no one gets washed off and killed today. That seems to happen alot when the storms come in.
