There's always one last snow after everyone thinks it's over. This happens every year, haven't you caught on?

The abnormally warm weather (not seen since 1945) is expected to continue through at least next weekend.
After a more in-depth look, it was actually 81*F in Traverse City as well.

Traverse City is too far south. I think Yellowknife is just about right. Have you seen the temps up north this winter ? We expect an active biting bug season.in da UP..... Our weatherman ( ch. 6 ) always picks " Pickle Lake, On." as a comparison point. One could assume its related to a few folks having a fishing lodge there..I know Ed Schultz bought one way north in SK. I think...Most of these are fly in only places.
When I said Yellowknife, I was thinking of how important the road connection is for them. There is no bridge across the Mackenzie river, so, for a short while they only have air access.I still think its a good place to compare our weather and whats coming. down to visit us. They are on Great Slave lake, and like Superior are effected by the huge mass of water in a big way.

Come on now, it's the first stages of climate change
The global temp is actually slightly cooler than average right now. It is ONLY way above average in our small corner of the world.

This map shows that pretty well:

Must be one huge base, taking up a lot of real estate, according to the previous posters map.Fact is, this area seems to include latitudes of my liking as well. Now I know when I go to northern Canada ( NWT ) why I transform myself into another world, one I could live in I am sure. When they say " no place on earth like it," I am sure we are talking about this strange land north of 60o.I have yet to travel to Nahanni National Park, of world heritage fame. Only way in is by bush plane and the weather was bad in Ft Simpson when I made the trip with great anticipation of things to come. The parks mountain range is like no other on earth in general, there are hot springs where things grow of tropical nature, white water that rivals any,and one of the worlds largest water falls, strange valleys where headless miners were found years ago. Too bad I did not make it. Its still on my Bucket List, and, I am getting to the bottom of the list.

This warm spell is almost unheard of for March, mainly because of its lonevity. Expect temps in the 70s in southern MI for another 7-8 days. A very similar March "heatwave" occurred in 1945. And make no mistake, warm March days are actually fairly common to pop up here and there, but 1945 and 2012 are in a league of their own. That said I seriously, seriously hope no one is attributing this to climate change lol. 15 of Detroits 20 warmest winters occurred before 1960. After several years of unusually harsh winters, Ill be damn if one mild winter and warm spell in March is climate change. Mild winters and heat waves have happened since the beginning of climate records (and before then too of course lol, its just with records we have documented proof), and if anything the most impressive ones (warmest winters and hottest summers) were scattered throughout the 1930s-1950s.

Yes, you folks down state are experiencing early warm weather. Nothing new,it's happened before . What's really strange is we up here in the UP Are getting the same weather these days. Almost every day now we are braking records for highs. The highs up here are in some cases warmer than Detroit.. The 70s in March is very strange in the UP.
