The 2010 Census Data has been released and shows the City of Novi continues to grow. According to the data, Novi is among the fastest growing cities in Oakland County, with a 16.5% increase in population over the past 10 years. Neighboring communities have generally seen population increases as well, making Novi well situated in the southwest region of Oakland County and the metro-Detroit area. Novi is now the 28th largest city in the state with a population of 55,224, up from 33rd 10 years ago.

The 2010 census count of 55,224 demonstrates the City of Novi continues to attract new residents and businesses. Novi’s Community Development Department saw a 65% increase in the number of new housing starts in 2010, with promising data in for the first two months of 2011 as well. And, in 2010, several new businesses relocated to Novi, including Kongsberg Automotive, Mando America, and Kistler Instruments.

In the fall of 2010, 93% of survey respondents rated Novi’s quality of life as “Excellent” or “Good;” none rated it “Poor” when polled by the National Research Center, a leading research firm known for its comprehensive studies of citizen perceptions and views. Novi residents also rated their community much above the national average in overall appearance, quality of new development, public safety, shopping opportunities, access to affordable quality healthcare, education, as a place to raise a family, as a place to retire, and openness and acceptance of people of diverse backgrounds.

If Novi only had character and soul imagine how great it would be...lol.

I completely agree with you there...

We are considering to move to Novi from San Diego California, we based our research on diversity, schools, proximity to U of M, housing, business. It seems Novi is as close to San Diego as it gets (without the weather lol). We are trying to make decision while being so far away, City of Novi had the best most informative website.

Lol to get close to family:-) Southern California is overrated....not the best place to raise a family. Yes the weather is perfect...ocean waaayyy too cold..summer or winter. We are getting taxed to death, lot's of business are leaving California (my husband's is one of many). My kids are in top schools..but wayyy too crowded (student teacher ratio is 1:40 in 7th grade..YAYKS). I guess if you are single..then it's cool:-)

We moved here from Orange County for the same reaasons:

Family, more wholesome atmosphere for kids, get away from out of control materialism, competitiveness and self-centeredness.

Novi is nice if you like soulless suburbia, but there are many many better options. Neighboring Northville has a quaint old fashioned downtown (Novi has no downtown), even better schools, plenty of shopping etc, and Novi is just a mile away if you want ot visit there for some reason. Novi has nice subdivisions - and nothing else. Everywhere has nice subdivisions.

If you are moving from San Diego look at some of the really cool places. Some of these places are amazing.

NorthvilleNorthville township
Plymouth
Plymouth Township
Birmingham
Ann Arbor
Chelsea
Dexter
Saline
Tecumseh
Grosse Pointe(s)
Grosse Ile
South Lyon
Rochester and adjoining Rochester hills (Rochester hills is kind of upscale Novi, but adjoining Rochester has a nice downtown, so Rochester HIlls residents have their own town that they can identify with).

Canton (may as well live in Novi though)

S.E. Michigan has so much to offer. It would be a shame to go somewhere bland.

I have posted probably 30-50 different posts on what differences we found from OC. San Diego is different from OC, but some of the information is still applicable and may be helpful to you. people and the overall atmosphere is different here. Some places are more like SO cal., others are very very different. Many are different on good ways.

Maybe you should contact Family Circle. It sounds like they could use your help...lol

Ahem..."Novi is one of this year’s 10 Best Towns for Families in the U.S., according to Family Circle.
The national magazine based its selection on criteria that included cost of living, jobs, schools, healthcare, air quality, green space, and crime rate.
A main part of the Novi entry referred to the city’s diversity."

Actually, that's the only reason I personally hear from anyone moving to Michigan from outside of the state (that didn't actually live here). That's actually kind of sad too. What that says is except for a relative, there ar eno redeeming qualities in Michigan that would scream "MOVE HERE!!!"

I moved to Royal Oak last month from the NYC area and it wasn't to get close to family =)

I've lived in cities from DC to NYC to Boston. After a while, you come to realize that they're all just buildings and people. If you're bored here, you'll be bored anywhere. If you're negative here, you'll be negative anywhere. Happiness is a state of soul - not a matter of cicumstances. Keep that chin up!
