There are no apple orchards in the U.P per se as in the L.P.. Not a good region for growing apples. If you are up in July or August there are (delicious) berries to be picked, but in the fall not much is happening on the produce end of things. Potatoes are good in some regions, but again region/weather dependent. Most of the U.P. farming is done on the eastern side of the peninsula, where as the western portion in more mining.

So orchards in the UP are out. No worries, we're meeting up with some family in Traverse City one weekend so I can take the kids to one while we're down there.

Anything else you could recommend I do in the area in the fall? The only plans I have so far aside from visiting my husband who will be working in Escanaba temporarily is to go to Pictured Rocks Lakeshore, Tahquamenon Falls, and taking drives through the fall colors. I want to make it up to Marquette too.

Don 't mis Marquette , there are so many things to do you will never get bored. We are a true city on the edge of the wilderness. Check us out, there are several web sites that will provide lots of things to check out. Marquette has won many awards as the best place to live in the Country, come and see why that is, from our active sports , to our historic downtown that is being restored. It's our lake front, interesting restaurants , sunsets , children's museum that a big hit I am told , the list is long. And , if city life , shopping , is not your thing , 15 min. Will get you into the real wilds, wilderness , hiking, mountain bikes, ATVs , walking , waterfalls, rocky peaks and sand beaches, Marquette has it all . !

Thanks darstar. I will be sure to make it to Marquette. I have heard nothing but good things about your city. I secretly wish my husband was working there instead of Escanaba but I'm game for checking out that city too. He'll actually be working out of Rapid River but staying in Escanaba.
