Went to Lake Michigan in Muskegon 2 weeks ago and the water temp was about 60 degrees. The kids loved it. The adults went in sparingly...some more than others. I went in up to my waist several times but not much more than that.

If it's a hot day out, you should be fine.

Looking to get back out in a couple weeks. I don't think the surface temps will break 70 this summer however. FWIW I like the cooler water temps, especially on a hot day which we have had 2 days of 90 this summer they say. Maybe a couple metro spots, but not the average for many places I know.

We were in Shelby (by Stony Lake) this weekend--there were folks in the water, though I only waded. We were right at the mouth of Stony Creek, and the water in the inlet was very warm, if of questionable quality.

We did some snorkeling around Charity Island in Lake Huron this past Sunday. It was not "warm" but we stayed in the water a long time without wet suits.

I have seen people in the water in Petoskey, but me no thanks. The inland lakes are perfect though.
Right. I regularly saw people jumping off the breakwall in Petoskey or swimming in lakeside beaches this past summer. I'd normally join some for a beach swim, but the entire northern Michigan area was much cooler this summer than usual (not that I've ever experienced it being overly hot).
